CONSTITUTION

Student Opt-Out Rights in terms of the Education Act 1994
A student shall have the right not to be a member of the Students’ Association. Students however, who exercise that right should not be unfairly disadvantaged with regard to the provision of services or otherwise by reason of their having opted out of the Students’ Association. This right is available to all students for four weeks after enrolment in any academic year. Appropriate forms are available for this purpose from the Students’ Association office. The opt-out is valid for the entire academic year.
Exercising the right to opt-out confers no financial benefit to a student. Opted-out students may not hold any representative office within the Students’ Association, including sabbatical, executive, club, society or recreational positions, or take part in any aspect of the democratic process including voting rights. Opted-out students may not attend or take any part in General Meetings, SRC, Executive or Finance & Services Committees.
