Abertay Students' Association is committed to helping food producers in the developing world get a better deal and has been supporting the work of Fairtrade for some time. To mark this, the University is applying for Fairtrade University status, so that regular publicity events can be organised. The Student Centre shop already stocks a selection of chocolate and cereal bars bearing the Fairtrade logo, which identifies them as fairly traded products. Fairtrade tea and coffee is also sold in the shop, the Lounge Bar and used for all University functions.

A Fairtrade Awarness Day will took place last November from in the Student Centre and all students and staff were invited to come along. There was Fairtrade chocolate to sample, a stall selling beautiful cards and gifts, an opportunity to learn more about *Fairtrade's work around the world and how you can get involved. Oxfam campaigner, John McAllion, gave a presentation which was very inspirational and well recieved.
